 In 2006 our whole church focus shifted. Prior to this we were a church whose mission and focus was quite general and non specific it was largely about maintaining the status-quo and servicing existing church members. At this time a new housing development around the Abbey field was just starting, and right on our church door step. It was not long beofre we felt a growing concern and desire to be part of this new community at Abbey field. As this concern grew it felt important that we became an integral part of the Churchill Gate community. So the church sold the previous manse and moved the pastor and his family to Churchill Gate. As well as working in partnership with the AbbeyField Community Project, we hired a community worker (from 2007-2009) to work two days a week establishing relationships and identifying community needs. As a response to the identified needs of the community we have established a carers and toddlers group ( called Abbey Tots that meets every wednesday at 9:45am at church) a childrens club (called KiDZ that meets every friday at 6:00pm at church ) a youth group (called AbbeYouth that meets every friday at 7:30pm at church), established a Churchill Gate residents association working with local residents and councillors to address current issues, host 5 free summer BBQ's and deliver monthly resident updates to keep every one informed of what is going on in the community. We also host a monthly open house which gives residents the opportunity to get together in a relaxed and informal environment. As we focus our work on the AbbeyField community we are looking to be continually meeting the real needs of the community in which God has placed us.
