Summer In China

This summer I went back to China to be part of a Summer School teaching English in a city near where I used to live. My role was to lead the team, most of whom were in China for the first time, to introduce them to what it’s like to teach in China and to share with them something of what life is like in China. My heart was for them all to catch something of God’s love for China, for the wonderful people who live there, and for them to see beneath the surface to something of the way God sees China. And I believe that that truly happened. On the trip it was such a privilege and joy that each day when I was praying for the team, God brought to my mind a particular member of the team who needed a touch from Him that day or who He wanted to show something to, and each day that member of the team would come back with a great story of something that had happened, a new friend they had made, a conversation they had had, or an opportunity they had had to share God’s love with one of their students. One man kept saying with tears in his eyes, “These people are touching my heart” - God truly opened his heart to China. It was amazing and I believe that the team were changed, and that our students were touched by the way the Lord used the team.
And the other exciting thing for me was to have an opportunity to catch up with old friends and hear how they are going on with the Lord. And one of my friends who first heard the gospel ten years ago is now a Christian! All these years she kept saying that she knew she had not really grasped “the truth” and she knew there was something that just had not sunk in, but, praise God, it now has. She spoke gently and humbly about her recognition of her sin and her joy in finally knowing it’s all washed away. I remember that I always used to say to her that those who truly seek God will find Him…. It’s true and He’s made that happen for my friend! Hallelujah! |
